Kassima Isabelle, known online as Gloom, was born on December 19, 1990, in Lethbridge, Alberta, Canada. She spent much of her childhood in Singapore before returning to Canada. Growing up, she had three siblings: an older brother, an older sister, and a younger sister. Kassie faced challenges during her school years, including bullying due to her Asian appearance, which affected her self-esteem. She later learned that she and her sister both had clinical depression. Despite these challenges, she pursued higher education, earning scholarships and invitations to universities.

Kassie began her online journey in 2011 with a lifestyle-themed YouTube channel called CloudyApples. After a brief hiatus, she returned in 2013 and later deleted all her previous videos. In 2015, she launched a new channel, initially named GloomGames, which later became simply Gloom.
